Extended description

Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the city’s most important pedestrian street, frequented by Salerno’s citizens and tourists. This long, wide and straight street axis provides an ideal place for light installations that exploit the perspective cone as an overall compositional structure. “The Winter Sea,” the title of this installation signed by Luca Pannoli, is a state of mind, a suspended atmosphere of waiting, divided between the memory of the past summer and the desire for the one to come. The title refers to the famous musical song by Loredana Bertè, in which the sea is not so much a natural element as a symbol of melancholy, a place of the soul. The title, however, can also be read as an implicit reference to the Salerno Luci d’Artista event, which, born in 2006 on the example of what has been happening in Turin since 1998, thanks to the intuition of then Mayor Vincenzo De Luca, transformed the city’s winter period, certainly underwhelming compared to the summer, into an occasion of great tourist affluence.
