“Sei tu il regalo più bello” (“You are the most beautiful gift”) is an installation that, in its author’s intentions, wants to pay homage to this event, a gift to the city to celebrate the 20th edition of Salerno Luci d’Artista, which in 2006, following the example of Turin, the artist’s hometown, inaugurated its first edition. Pannoli’s idea is to thank all those – citizens and tourists – who have made the Salerno event famous and admired over the past 20 years. The installation reproduces, on a large scale, a gift-box like that of doll or miniature toys, in which from a window in the package it is possible to see the contents. The viewer is invited to enter to become a visible and photographed part of the work itself. This role-play reverses the traditional artist-audience dynamic and celebrates those who made the event possible: the visitor. At the same time, the installation introduces further and more subtle reflections: while on the one hand it refers to the concept of gift as a means of sharing, participation and gratitude, (which also recalls the epiphanic episode of the Three Kings), it also invites us to reflect on the contemporary use of photographic images that it itself promotes. So-called post-photography heralds a new form of production and fruition, closely linked to the use of the internet, social media and mobile devices. The overabundance of these images and their rapid circulation have transformed our relationship with reality and memory, also affecting the role of the author, the artistic experience, and the very notion of truth and originality. YOU ARE THE BEST GIFT! Take a photograph of yourself inside the installation and share it with your friends with the hashtags #salernolucidartist and #seituilregalopibello A way to preserve this memory together with those who love you.
