Humans, animals and plants share the same habitat. The activity of the former, over the centuries, has greatly affected life on Earth to such an extent that some scholars have coined the term Anthropocene to define this latest geological era in which anthropogenic influence is greater than any other environmental factor. The work entitled “We are Nature” consists of three female figures (symbolizing the human species – and also Gaia, the Earth), placed in relation to the other natural elements (environment, plants and animals). Three Muses represented in the moment of their metamorphosis in which hair becomes clouds, hands butterflies and arms branches and flowers. The site-specific light art installation conceived by artist Luca Pannoli and purchased by the City of Salerno, therefore, invites us to reflect on these themes, to recognize that there is a deep connection between the elements represented and how vital it is today to preserve Nature and its poignant beauty.
