This original work, entitled “Mosaic,” was commissioned from artist Enrica Borghi by the city administration during the second edition of the Salerno Luci d’artista 2007/2008 event. It stems from the deep connection between the artist and the oldest part of the city. Enrica Borghi, walking through the narrow streets of the city’s historic center, was struck by the particular architecture of the buildings that propose the vertical development of the gaze. “… after viewing the historic street of Salerno and some architectures that symbolically represent the city, I identified the idea of the mosaic as the narrative theme of my installation proposal. Some insights from historical research particularly excited me, and it is precisely the city’s architectural history that serves as a reference for my work. Another important element in the design definition was the height of the buildings located on Mercanti Street, and it is precisely because of this that I raised the perspective point, inviting a path that leads the gaze upward….”
