Government Palace

The Palazzo di Governo (or of the Littorio) stands in an area affected by a major expansion, as part of the vast program of urban interventions carried out in the early decades of the twentieth century.

Architectural work of Fascist style, unlike City Palace still tied to the architectural balances of classical taste, the Government Palace obeys a more modern and linear style, characterized by sparse and essential lines.

Ultimated in 1941, the building featured a long portico and a fine ceramic statue by artist Renato Rossi, depicting the Dream of Bellerophon. It suffered considerable damage during the Allied landings in 1943; it was then renovated in the 1950s, becoming the headquarters of the Prefecture of Salerno.
